Snowball turns Seventeen
Today is Snowball’s 17th birthday. We celebrate it yesterday. Unlike all my previous dog parties—full fledge parties with cakes, games, and guests—this year I decided to tone it down a little, making it very much a private affair and less hectic. Furthermore, I changed the theme and we celebrated in a Traditional Chinese way, almost.
Couple of reasons. One, I don’t usually have many dogs lived to this age. Most of them stayed for about 13 to 15 years before they bid their farewell. It is a privilege to have Snowball’s devoted friendship for all these years. Snowball, and the rest of his children, had longevity noodles. Why longevity noodles? It’s a popular Chinese traditional dish to have on birthdays and other festival occasions. It symbolizes long life.
Secondly, Snowball hasn’t been in his top form lately. When nightfalls or cold wind draws near, Snowball has breathing difficulties. I cooked Black Chicken Herbal Soup to strengthen his lungs and replenish energy.
Desserts? There’s none! Herbs and sweets don’t mix. Instead, they got an extra 10 minutes therapeutic massage each.
I’m taking a break today. Going to Ikea to get four throws for my dogs. As for myself, a new kitchen island and a bookshelf will do just fine for now.
Of course, I won’t leave you like that without giving you the recipes.
They will be posted this week.
