Happy Birthday, Snowball
Today is my 16th birthday. And we’re going to have a barkbeque party this evening near the poolside. Just then I jumped up on mommy’s bed to give her a big kiss but she didn’t reciprocate. Mommy looked exhausted. She’d been busy preparing for my party.
On Thursday, mommy took another family portrait of us. She had to because we got our new cut this past Sunday. She clipped our coat slightly shorter than usual due to the warm weather. She also gave us a good trim on our paw bread (tuff of hair between dog’s toes) so we won’t slip easily on the wet ceramic tiles near the pool.
She played around that photograph on the computer; minutes later came sheet after sheet of papers from a box with our picture on each one of them. Mommy folded the papers into two and pressed my painted pawprint onto each one of them. I suppose they are called invitation cards.
On Friday, she bought more paper plates, plastic cutlery, party hats and grownup bibs. I wonder whose bibs are they for, better not be me wearing them. I know I don’t have the best table etiquette when comes to eating my food. Yes, I salivate while I eat; occasionally I had mucus drooling down to my food. What am I suppose to do when I don’t have any teeth at all to help me chew my food.
Saturday morning, mommy went to the market bought a truck load of grocery. There were chicken wings, ribs, salmon, potatoes, carrots, chicken livers, ground beef, eggs, celery, broccoli, apples, and tomatoes. That was how much I could investigate; I yet to fully recover from my flu since two weeks ago. That was quite a lot of food for eleven dogs (five here and six neighbors’ dogs). Maybe the rest are for other daddies and mommies.
It’s almost eight now, and mommy makes her way to the bathroom. It’s very unusual to see her that tired. Mommy was complaining to Aunt Cecilia (our neighbor) about her migraine yesterday when she came over to help us with the food preparation. She said it was the hot humid weather that contributed much to the cause. I hope mommy gets better as evening draws near. I know this party means a lot to her because it’s not very often she gets to organize 16th birthday for any one dog in her life. It will be a wonderful party. Let’s cross my paws that it won’t rain and ruin my party.
I gotta go now; mommy is coming to get us to eat our breakfast.
