Announcement: Server Crashed!

If you have been visiting my blog since this past Sunday, then you probably encounter slow loading and disappearance of this site.

What happened was that the server which this blog was hosted on suffered a kernel panic. In attempt to rectify the problem which went on for about 16 hours (Sunday 8am to 12mn, EST) and still going on,…

The server has suffered a failed raid array after the new drive was replaced this morning and being rebuilt. After several attempts to recover the array, a decision has been made to go ahead with the restoration of backups to a different node.

… I then requested my hosting company to move two of my blogs to a temporary server. Because of the fatal crashed, my hosting company used their backup database instead from the Data Center. Hence you are not seeing the latest posts and comments for now. Yes, I have my own backups but they aren’t any more recent than theirs.

As for the slow loading of this blog, I’m still trying to figure how is this so when the other blog (on the same server as this one) isn’t facing similar situation. We (my hosting company and I) were working through the night (11pm to 5am, AEDT) to solve this problem, but still couldn’t find the root to the problem. As a matter of fact, I’m still working on this issue as I’m writing this post.

A new node has been installed onto the 206.x.x.x server and the server is now reachable. Backups restoration are well under way and are assisted by level 3 administrators to quicken the process.

… and hopefully things will resume to normal once my blogs are transferred back to my original server.

I won’t be doing much updating and reposting for now. As to comment and email queries, I will get to them (what I have on my database) as soon as possible. As for this week posts, I won’t be posting much either. I’m still suffering minor pain on my last molar tooth (a root canal treatment was done 5 years prior to) after a trip to the dentist yesterday. I could take medications to ease the pain and my swollen cheek but that will only make me very drowsy.

Update:

This will be my permanent server (located in Chicago) for now, after testing and moving four servers the last three days. The backend is yet to be consolidated, but it shouldn’t have any impact on your viewing or commenting.

Moved again! After six disappearances and reappearances (magically) of my latest posts, I decide to move back to my original server. Thank God the server was restored just in time before I lost my insanity. Hopefully there won’t be any Houdini stunt!
