A total of 68 recognized breeds by AKC and KC together with top 24 designer dogs. For this blog, dogs under 10 inches tall and weigh no more than 18 pounds are considered small dogs. Between 10½ to 17 inches tall, I would consider them as small-medium sized dogs.

Very often when we like a particular breed, we also have a fondness of another breed with similar personalities and/or physical appearance. Having to choose one over the other without comprehensive breed profiles comparison can be very frightening.
