Meaty Oatmeal Cookies for Dogs

Meaty Oatmeal Cookies for DogsAs a child, mom used to make oatmeal for breakfast. In high school, I learnt how to bake oatmeal cookies in home economic class. As a college freshman, I worked part-time in a local cookies store that sold 3 variations of oatmeal cookies among 50 other flavors. At work, my first job after graduation, I’d drink instant oatmeal in a cup between trading.

So what do all these incidents have to do with this meaty oatmeal cookies recipe? Nothing! =|

Actually, almost everything. For one obvious fact, I love oatmeal in whatever form they may be and I like to share any new oatmeal recipe with friends. Secondly and most importantly, eating oatmeal (not including instant oatmeal) on a regular basis has its many health benefits. For example, it may reduce LDL cholesterol, has cancer-fighting properties, slows down starch digestion (beneficial to diabetics), reduce heart diseases, and many others.

Of course, your dog doesn’t have to suffer any kind of illnesses to get the benefits of what oats can offer. Just the aroma coming from an opened package of Quaker Oats is enough to make your dog salivates. And if you can make delicious cookies out of it, your dog can fill up a bowl of saliva faster than you can get the cookies baked. :grinnod:

Servings: 12 Meaty Oatmeal Doggie Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3½ cups of whole wheat flour
  • 3½ cups of Quaker Oats
  • ½ pound of ground beef, cooked, drained, and crumbled
  • 1 cup of carrot puree
  • 2 tablespoon of cod liver oil
  • 12 oz of low sodium beef broth

Methods:

  1. Combine all ingredients and knead until dough forms a ball.
  2. Roll into 1” log and slice cookies to ½” thickness from end.
  3. Arrange on cookie sheet and bake at 148ºC (300ºF) for 90 minutes.
  4. Cool them before serving. The reminders can be chilled overnight in refrigerator.

Special notes:

Instead of beef, try substituting chicken or liver. Just in case your dog doesn’t like beef or is allergic to it.
