Dog Treats: Mock Milk Bone Recipe
You probably heard this cliche many times – oldies but goodies. This is certainly true with this classic dog treats recipe – Mock Milk Bones. A little treat goes a long way!
Servings: 3 dozen Mock Milk Bones
Ingredients:
- 175 (¾ c) hot water
- 80 ml (1/3 c) butter
- 150 ml (1/2 cup) dry milk
- 5 ml (1 t) salt
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 710 ml (3 c) whole wheat flour
Methods:
- Pour hot water over butter, then slowly stir in milk, salt, and egg.
- Add flour 150 ml (1/2 cup) at a time until combined, then knead for 5 minutes or until a stiff dough is formed.
- Roll to ½” thickness and cut into desired shapes or sizes.
- Bake at 160º (325º F) for 50 minutes.
- Cool overnight.
Bite Tips: Egg substitute can be used to lighten this recipe if you dog just can’t give up his dog treats.

Hi, I made your milk bone biscuit recipe and my dog loves them. They are not hard and crunchy like milk bones. Is this normal? thank you.
