Dog Biscotti Trail

Homemade Dog Food RecipesGiving your dog cookies for breakfast doesn’t have to be sinful. As a matter of fact, if you give him wholesome homemade cookies you might just end up making his day even brighter.

What’s so wholesome about this biscotti recipe is that I use natural oils and oats to make it a healthier treat without scarifying the taste. The oil contributes to your pup’s shiny coat and aids in digestion, while the oats are a hearty addition to his diet.

Servings: 3 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

  • Biscotti base
  • 20 ml (1½ tbsp) canola oil
  • 20 ml (1½ tbsp) honey
  • 250 ml (1 cup) oatmeal

Method:

  1. Spread oatmeal on microwave-safe shallow dish.
  2. Microwave oil and honey on high for 30 seconds, then pour over oatmeal and stir until completely combined.
  3. Microwave on high for 7 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes.
  4. Let it cool.
  5. Prepare biscotti base dough and slowly fold in trail mix.
  6. Bake according to biscotti base instructions, paying close attention to oats to prevent burning.

Special Note:

Any remainder can be kept in an air-tight cookie jar. Because there is no preservative added, the shelf life is very much shorter than commercial ones hence it can last up until four days before the biscotti go semi soft.

And if you have only one small dog less than 4 lbs, you might want to reduce the ingredients used in order to keep the biscotti fresh while they last.
