Assorted Berries and Peanut Butter Pound Cake

Dog TreatsAnother long weekend, more reasons for you to pamper your dog with this delicious assorted berries and peanut butter pound cake. What’s even better? You don’t have to bake any pound cake, unless you want to, to enjoy this dessert. Any* vanilla pound cake found in the supermarket with do the trick. And if you have children, you can get them to help you with the process. Not only it’s a fun activity for the children, it allows them to display their creative talents. Seriously, you can’t go very wrong on how you want to dress up your pound cake as long as the ingredients used are safe for both human and canine consumption.

* By any, I mean the healthiest choice of vanilla pound cake you can find. Most importantly, it doesn’t contain trans fat.

Notes on berries: If possible, get all organic berries otherwise you’ve to wash them thoroughly. Remember to deseed them before decorating. You may also want to cut them into smaller bites.

Servings: You tell me!

Ingredients:

  • 1 vanilla pound cake (homemade or commercial, preferably organic)
  • ¼ cup of blueberries
  • ¼ cup of blackberries
  • ¼ cup of raspberries
  • ¼ cup of strawberries (optional)
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons all natural peanut butter (preferably organic)
  • ½ to 1 tablespoon of water
  • 1 teaspoon honey (preferably organic)

Methods:

  1. Turn over the pound cake onto a serving plate.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the peanut butter with water until smooth.
  3. Brush the surface and the side of the cake with the peanut butter mixture. Be generous with the spread!
  4. Arrange the berries on top of the cake.
  5. Brush a thin layer of honey over the fruits for an appetizing shine.
  6. Slice the cake before serving. (duh!)

Special note: Since dogs can’t use cutlery (duh again!), you might want to cut the slice into small pieces for your dog.

Personal note: I’m not a big fan of strawberries as I usually end up getting very sour ones or maybe I’ve low tolerance to sour flavor, whichever. In addition, my dogs don’t fancy them either so I don’t include them in this or any of my recipes. If you know the art of picking sweet strawberries, by all means have them on your pound cake. I will leave this to your discretion.

Have a Restful Long Weekend and a

Happy Easter Day!
