Why a Heated Bed Might be Right for Your Dog

Heated dog beds have been around for some time, and have enjoyed a solid run of popularity among owners who want to keep their pet’s tuchus warm when the thermometer starts to dip.  Still, many consumers have in the past been turned off from purchasing a heated dog bed because most models rely on electricity to provide the heat, and owners were worried about the risk this would cause to a chew-happy pup.  But realizing this many manufacturers have begun making beds with chew-proof cords.  This, along with adjustable heat controls, has helped immensely in ensuring safety as well as comfort for all pets.  Thanks to that, and some recent new designs and features, has made heated beds more popular today than they’ve ever been.

So we’re going to go ahead and take a look at some popular heated dog beds and will explain what benefits and features some of them offer.

Popular Heated Dog Beds

A Bed for All Seasons

Snuggly Sleeper All Season Pet BedK & H Pet Products carries the most extensive selection and variety of heated pet beds and have recently come out with some interesting models, including a heated bolster bed and the Thermo-Hut Pet Dome, which utilizes a hood for extra snugglebility.  Perhaps their best-known model is the All Seasons Snuggle Sleeper, which was a winner of the 2008 Dog Fancy Editor’s Choice Award.  The Snuggle Sleeper comes with plush poly fiber fabric and interchangeable heating a cooling inserts, ensuring maximum comfortable for your pooch as the seasons change.

Orthopedic Beds: It’s all About the Foam

Heated Wellness Sleeper Dog Bed with Orthopedic Foam FillOrthopedic beds are a great option if your pet is older and has arthritis or issues with joint and/or muscle fatigue.  The problem is, a lot of beds might be labeled as orthopedic but might be made out of the same materials as regular dog beds.  The best support material for arthritic pets is memory foam, buying a bed with any other type of material is not recommended if you want provide the best possible comfort for your pooch in need.  K & H’s selection of heated orthopedic beds do contain memory foam as does the Heated Wellness Sleeper from Pet Safe, which also has the benefit of coming with a chewless plug and cord.

Taking it Outside

Small Lectro-Soft Outdoor Heated Pet BedK & H also broke new ground when the recently came out the Lectro-Soft Heated Outdoor Pet Bed, the first heated pet bed that is suitable for using outdoors.  This bed is able to maintain its durability by using a soft PVC covering, which does not absorb water.  It also uses a covered cord to remove the risk of an electrical shock caused by water (as well as chewing of course).  The Lectro-Soft bed is ideal for using at a doghouse or any type of outdoor shelter as well as in damp basements, so long as there is an outlet within distance.  Just bear in mind that while the PVC covering is fairly soft, it does not have the same plush feel you might come to expect in many other types of dog beds.

We’re long past the days when heated dog beds were just glorified electrical blankets.  With all of the new features available, you’ll find that many of these beds offer versatility and safety in addition to comfort.
