They Laughed When I Told Them my Prefix Dog Name

Dog NamesBut when I started to explain, many showdog judges and friends had their jaws ajar with fixated glare upon my face. I wasn’t sure what emotions they had but I’m positive that my explanation kept them wondering if they had given good prefix dog names that their pedigree dogs deserved.

On the last issue “Are you giving your puppy the right dog name?”, Snowball promised to tell you his title name so I shan’t obstruct his limelight then.

I will tell you my real birth name only if you promise not to laugh!

My title name is Champion Titirangi Snowman. Irks, I hate that name, so does my mommy. No offend to the breeder. But what on earth is Titirangi? What’s even more obscure is my late wife’s name. Snowie title name is Champion Ourtime Sno Charmer. There’s no doubt Snowie was a charmer, but what the heck is Ourtime means?

Tittirangi and Ourtime are some of prefix names, only appeared on pedigree dog birth certificates; these are usually required by the kennel clubs. By that I mean if you want to register the offspring of your pedigree dogs and/or you want to show them in the reputable dog shows.

My children prefix name is Sableminks.

Now you probably think that’s a bit contrary as sable means black and we’re all Maltese.

My mommy thought it differently. Upon further studying the origin of Maltese, my mommy saw the need to accentuate Maltese dogs status. Sable hair is used on an artist brush. And in the olden days, only aristocrats or the learned could afford to use this expensive and luxuriant item to express themselves. As for minks, is with the same notion as sable, soft lustrous fur. By the way, my mommy doesn’t condone of animal killing for human quest of animal skins or parts.

So you see, my mommy had it thought out carefully before naming my children’s prefix dog name.

Whether you are naming prefix or first name for your new puppy, I’ll leave you with this thought.

Don’t just name it rare, but name it with care.

Next issue will be on small dog names. I tell you how my grandmama (my mommy’s mom) named all her dogs. You want to keep your eyes peeled for this humorous family story. If you don’t want to be embarrassed by friends when you call your dog, then you’d love my next issue on small dog names.

I always had my coated breeds so relaxed with grooming that they would lay over on their side for me to brush them — you brush your hair daily to prevent mats, why would you expect your dog’s hair not to tangle when left unbrushed for weeks on end? Get some treats and put him on the table for a few minutes of brushing at first — don’t expect him to stay there for thirty minutes and allow an overall brushing the first time — build up so that he knows it isn’t an unpleasant thing … make it pleasant for him so that he looks forward to your time together. There are spray conditioners that help keep the electric hair thing from happening for him and help you to brush him out easier if he is a little tangled. Just like you, it hurts to have tangles removed without care.

Before you make a decision on what you want to do, I would try to get a job for a couple years as a bather somewhere…preferably with a good groomer. That way, you will know what all goes on, and see if this is what you really want to do. Grooming school cost me $5,000 and that was years ago. That’s alot of money to spend on something you are not going to want to do after a year.
