Using Homemade Beef Stock for Kibbles

Homemade Recipes for DogsAdding lukewarm water to kibbles is one of the ways to bring out the aroma however the smell diminishes quickly if you don’t serve within few minutes—hopefully you won’t burn your dog’s lips and tongue.

Most dogs love gamey flavors and when you add beef stock into their kibbles, they are more likely to finish every single kibble in their bowl. Some may even lick their bowl dry. :grinnod:

This technique works great for finicky eaters and senior dogs. As a matter of fact, you can use beef stock just about any dishes for your dogs. What is even better about homemade beef stock is that you have 100% control of the ingredients used. So good bye to preservatives or worst MSG.

Serving: Depending on the usage.

Ingredients:

  • 8 pounds beef soup bones
  • 8 cups of water
  • 1 fist-size potato, cubed.
  • 2 bay leaves

Methods:

  1. Preheat oven at 350°F.
  2. Place soup bones on roasting pan and bake for 25 minutes. Turn the bones occasionally until brown.
  3. Drain off remaining fat.
  4. Put the cooked bones in a large pot.
  5. Pour half cup of water onto the roasting and deglaze it before pouring the mixture into the pot.
  6. Add the remaining water (7 and half cups) into the pot.
  7. Bring it to boil and then add in the cubed potatoes and bay leaves.
  8. Cover and simmer for 3 to 4 hours.
  9. Once done, strain the stock through a sieve with unbleached cheesecloth.

DO NOT give your dog the cooked beef bones no matter how desperate he begs. Make sure you dispose them properly where he has no access to them.

Cooked bones can splinter and cause serious intestinal punctures.

Special note: If you are going use beef stock for every meal, by all means double up the ingredients stated above. Make sure you have a big fridge to store the beef stock in order to keep it fresh. A crowded fridge consumes more electricity so be wise to rationalize your space constraint.
