Soft Cookies for Senior Dogs

Homemade Dog Food RecipeAs dogs age, it’s inevitable that they will have problem chewing their kibbles. Even dogs on home cooked meal, we as care givers have to reinvent or modify our recipes in order for them to consume the food without much difficulty.

Tip: As I mentioned here, one of the ways to soften kibbles is by adding water. If you want to give the dry kibbles a little more flavor, use broth instead. Whatever flavor of broth you choose, be it complements or differs to the kibbles’ flavor, it’s all about personal preference. The good thing about cooking is that there’s no “fix rule.” You’re free to experiment them until you find what makes your dog salivate for more!

Serving: 2 dozens of senior dog cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3 (2½ oz. each) jars of baby food—chicken, turkey, beef, or lamb.
  • ¼ cup of dry milk powder or ½ cup of yogurt.
  • ¼ cup of wheat germ or cream of wheat.

Methods:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Roll into small balls (size of nickel) and place on well-greased cookie sheet.
  4. Flatten the balls slightly with a fork.
  5. Bake it for 15 minutes until brown.
  6. Cool them before serving.
  7. Keep the remaining in cookie jar.

Special Note: If you choose to refrigerate the cookies to keep them fresh, do remember to preheat them either by microwave or steaming. If your dog has severe teething problems, the better option is to steam them as it will soften the cookies.
