Roast Beef and Potato Doggie Meal
I know many don’t eat leftovers as you deem them as unhealthy food, so for me to suggest feeding your dog leftovers may seem unthinkable. Well, it depends on certain food. Some taste a whole lot better when it’s left overnight and roast beef is one of them.
Although I don’t cook or eat roast beef much but I often get partial of the leftover from my MIL when we had dinner at her house. And being a busy stay-home “mom,” there are days I’m so reluctant to whip up some haute cuisines for my dogs. We can always eat something light for that day or order takeout but what about our dogs? Of course, there will be days when our dogs want to skip a meal or two but that’s not for us to decide when they should do so. This is when leftover like roast beef comes in handy.
Important Note: Please keep in mind that not all human leftovers are suitable for our dogs’ consumption. Having said, you can always do some “modifications.”
Servings: 5 small doggie meals
Ingredients:
- 2 large potatoes, boiled
- 10 slices of roast beef, reheat*
- Ginger, slivered very finely
Tip for boiling potato: Prior to boiling the skinned potatoes, cut the skin thinly around the circumference. Then boil them for a few minutes or until cooked. Place the skinned potatoes into a bowl of ice cold water for a minute or two. You should be able to pull the potato skin off very easily from both ends. I prefer boiling potatoes in this way when I don’t use them as part of the soup or stew.
Methods:
- Cut potatoes to bite size into a large bowl.
- Chop or shred roast beef into fairly small pieces.
- Then mix the roast beef and ginger with the diced potatoes thoroughly.
Special Notes:
Depending how you cooked your roast beef, if you didn’t sprinkle too much salt and pepper then it should be fine for your dog’s consumption. Otherwise it is best to rinse them under running water for a few minutes before reheating them. Alternatively, you could heat them in boiling water and discard the “broth” once done. This will “get rid” the rich flavors that you’d marinated/prepared your roast beef.
Speaking of takeout, do you think I should open a doggie takeout restaurant for busy pet parents? ![]()
