Garlicky Beef and Rice
Inspiration for cooking healthy food for my dogs can be found anywhere, even in the unhealthiest restaurants. No, I didn’t dine in those places on my own accord if that’s what you’re thinking.
Anyway, on one occasion, my guest ordered the restaurant’s famous dish—beef steak! I thought I’ve seen various forms of beef steak presentation but not that one. Beef was nicely cut and grilled with one scoop of rice (long grain) at a corner of the plate and a small bowl of thick garlic sauce at the other corner. Believe you me, I was just as stunned as you could possibly imagine. As for the taste, it wasn’t the tender beef that lift up its name but rather it was the combination with the garlic sauce that makes one wanted for more.
Being a big proponent of using herbs in food, I find the garlic was so poorly utilized that it strips away its natural effects such as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antibiotic, and anticoagulant. What a waste but it doesn’t have to be in my Garlicky Beef and Rice recipe for your pampered dog!
To use garlic for medicinal reasons, it should be crashed just before adding into the ready cooked dish.
Servings: 3 to 6 meals
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of lean beef, cubed
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1½ cups of brown rice, steamed
- 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
Methods:
- Add oil into a heated wok or frying pan and coat it well.
- Let the oil heat up a bit more before adding the beef cube.
- Stir fry beef cube until thoroughly cooked and off the heat.
- Sprinkle the minced garlic over and mix it well.
- Add in the steamed brown rice and mix.
- Cool before serving.
Special Note: One of the many secrets I learn from my mom about retaining freshness on food is to master the heat. Meaning stir fry cooking should be done under 3 minutes. Duration also depends largely from vegetables to meat.

There is NO way on earth I could keep humans in my household away from this before the dogs could get one bite.

Hi Jan,
I’m sure you know how to do so since you are the Alpha dog in the (whole) pack.
BTW, add a few drops of sesame oil and some coriander leaves over the human portion to keep them from eating the doggie portion. Just a thought you might want to consider!

All the oil couldn’t be good for the dogs…?
It’s not all to grand to have humanes eat foods with a lot of grease and oil, so why let a dog?
