Yes, onions are toxic to dogs. That’s only when they are consumed whole, raw, and in large amount.

Generally, most owners don’t use much onions in dog food recipes neither do dogs eat them often. I occasionally use them in preparing my dog’s meal mainly to enhance the taste and fragrance. However, you are welcome to customize the recipe whichever you feel comfortable.
