		<description>Totally agree with you on the two points, Rick. That&#039;s why I stress breed selection should be the primary concern for any pet owners be it experience or inexperience. If this is not made available (i.e. mixed breeds in shelters), I’d advice beginner pet owners to avoid at all cost. 

BTW, my parents had a Persian cat together with a Doberman. Although they lived in a big house, these two rarely meet without supervision even though Macho (Doberman) had continuous training lessons. Ironically, Macho was more &quot;fearful&quot; of MiCha (Cat).</description>

		<description>I&#039;ve had both cats and dogs together in the past. Depending on the breed, the combination that I would be most wary of is bringing an adult dog into the house with a resident cat or kitten, especially if you don&#039;t know the dog&#039;s prior living arrangements or training.</description>
