Halloween Dog Costume on a Budget – Cornrows

Halloween Dog Costum on a Budget - CornrowsAs you can see from the picture that this is not your usual or traditional Halloween dog costume, but who is to say what is or what’s not? If there is a rule that dogs have to be dressed in clothes for Halloween season, I reckon it would be ‘boring’ to say the least.

Cornrows have been around for many decades, it has transcended from mere straight line braids to fancy patterns. I had it done once 14 years ago in Phuket, Thailand for 100 baht (under 3 US dollars). If my dogs were with me then, they would have theirs done too. Why not? I don’t know where you can get such a deal in the United States. Just on salon tipping alone is easily twice or thrice the amount. For those who know a thing or two in doing cornrows, you might want to try this ‘costume’ on your dogs.

Here are some of the things that worth considering before dressing your dogs with cornrows.

  • Generally for those dogs with long coat, they are your ideal ‘customers’. I doubt any dog would look great with beads all over their bodies. I always believe less is more. However, you can always experiment, and push the boundary a little as long it doesn’t inflict any pain or discomfort to your dog.
  • Do not try this on puppies during their teething periods (8 to 12 weeks old) or dogs who would chew anything at sight.
  • Avoid doing on their tails, legs and maybe their ears too.

The thing about dogs with long coat from head to tail, they have the option to do either on the head or body. Dogs like…

Whereas dogs with moderate long coat without much on their heads, have only one option.

I would appreciate greatly if you could send in some pictures or just share your experiences here at the comments below. Thanks in advance. ;-)
