I am thinking about adopting a neighbour’s dog and it is a fairly new idea for me. But I scored well enough that I can do the next quiz, and that’s great because it’ll give me more time to think about this huge decision that I’m contemplating!

Hello,
I am a college student who is going to be moving out on my own this summer. I have grown up around animals and love their companionship, but will no longer have it when I move out . The apartment complex I will be moving to allows pets, which is exciting for me. I would love to have the companionship of a dog and I want nothing more than to rescue one and give it a chance living with me. I just want to take it really slow and make sure both I and my new dog would be able to handle new things that will be coming my way. My main concerns are having a dog that barks too much and getting in trouble with the landlord and being absolutely 100% sure about my circumstances and if they will stress my dog. Truth be told, innocent dogs are put to sleep everyday, It seems like dealing with a few changes in my life wold be better than being put to sleep. I just want to be sure. Any comments or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks for the helpful quiz!! -Grace

Hello Renée,

I have to agree that we have an uncommon name but of late I’ve seen quite a bit—could it be due to celebrities? I remember I had a hard time getting those Irish nuns to pronounce my name correctly when I was in first grade. How weird!

I’m glad you enjoyed reading my blog and found them helpful. And I’m so very happy to hear that you are taking a rescue dog. I wish there are more folks like you, taking it slow and getting “recycle” dogs. I’m confident you will make a wonderful pet parent. Do keep me posted when you found the right dog for you.

Exactly! These days everything that we want comes to us so instantaneously, and if the things don’t meet our goals we just discard them in an instant too. Sad, huh? But the true is that there is still some folks look at dogs or any domesticated animals as a form of commodity—come today, gone tomorrow! Just like the way my nieces change their cell phones.

Renée, Great post. What an awesome aid to help folks actually have a decision making process for getting a dog rather than just impulsively getting a cute little puppy.

I love the post graphics you’ve been using and your theme is wonderful! You’ve managed to make it feel very small dog-ish.
