I have a female golden who about 3 weeks after her heat goes off food and acts a little depressed, anxious and somewhat timid. It usually lasts about a month. She has had 1 litter and was like this throughout her pregnancy too...once she whelped and starting nursing she was great and an awesome mom. My animal communicator said that she absolutely loved being a mom which was evident. It just concerns me that she won't eat...I try everything and supplement her with vitamins and nutri stat to help her through it. After reading about false pregnancies...I'm wondering if it is connected...it has to be hormonal. She doesn't experience any of the other symptoms...no weight gain, milk production, etc. Could she be experiencing something like false pregnancy. Please if anyone has ever gone through this let me know.

I have a 14 year old chihuahua who I think is having a false pregnancy....she is have all the symptons, however the only thing that is different is she has stated pooping in the house. I have bought her stuff animals, but she is not having anything to do with them? I thought about calling our local humane society to see if they have any newborn pups that maybe my "Sissy" can nurse-would this be a good idea?

Hi Carli,

Yes, some dogs do deliver after 63 days and up to 66 days. As for 68 days, I personally haven't encounter before. Have you consulted a vet as to whether there are actually puppies in her. Usually, during the last couple of weeks before delivery, you can feel the movement of the puppies pretty obviously.

Hi,

I have a 5-yr old APBT that I bred on 09/15. She has been through all the normal signs of pregnancy - weight gain, swollen rib area, picky eating, milk production. However, today makes day 68 - no puppies. She has some restless moments and digs at her bed. She won't drink water; but, will eat only about 1 can of wet dog food. I've read that dogs can deliver later than 63 days; but, I am wondering if this just may be a false pregnancy.

Hi Skye,

Give me a couple days to write out a full length article on my secret weapons on coaxing finicky dogs to eat their food, more specifically kibbles.

Meanwhile, don't worry too much for now. You might want to read my other article on How To Deal With Dogs Who Are Finicky Eaters? I think she still has some reserves, if not more than needed, for her to be picky on her regular meal.

Peace

Hi Renee,

Thank you for your reply. I've taken your advice and have tried snacks as well as oatmeal. In the beginning, the snacks didn't bode too well because she would sift through her bowl wanting to eat only snacks leaving her dog food as leftovers. So then I tried the oatmeal which she ate well. After awhile, she began to get picky again, eating only oatmeal and leaving her dog food as leftovers. :(

We've taken her out for walks and runs. She still enjoys her exercise immensely. She was overweight when we had taken her in, now combined with the lack of appetite, she's actually slimmed down to the normal AKC Siberian Husky weight range, 50 lbs.

I'm at a loss on what to do for her now, do you have anymore suggestions?

Sincerely,
